Clear Thinking Part 2: 3 Essential Steps to Becoming a Clear Thinker

Straight forward, witty and timeless. #TellItLikeItIs, is a blog for our generation

In Part 1 of our ‘Clear Thinking’ series, we explored why clear thinking matters more than ever in today’s fast-paced world. In Part 2, we move from awareness to application—outlining practical guidelines to help you begin developing clearer, more intentional thinking in everyday life. Here are 3 steps to get you out of the fog and on your way to becoming a clear thinker.

Step 1: Create Space to Observe Your Mind

Spend fifteen uninterrupted minutes in silence. No phone, music, television, or distractions—simply sit and observe.

You may be surprised by how quickly the urge to check social media, respond to messages, reach for entertainment, or mentally drift begins to surface. These impulses reveal what currently occupies your attention and competes for your focus.

Clear thinking begins with awareness. Before we can organize our thoughts, we must first recognize what is constantly pulling them in different directions. A mind that is never observed is difficult to direct.

Step 2: Tend Your Mind

Now that you’ve built awareness of your thoughts, turn that observation into a daily practice.

“Tending your mind” means maintaining that awareness throughout everyday life—not just in quiet moments, but in real-time decisions, conversations, and actions. Start with small choices, then extend it to bigger ones.

With practice, you create space between impulse and response.

Step 3: Separate Emotions, Opinions, and Facts

When something affects you emotionally, resist the urge to react immediately—especially on social media. Take time to process your raw emotion before responding.

Often, feelings shift when given space instead of being acted on in the heat of the moment.

At the same time, be careful not to treat opinions as facts, no matter how strongly they are presented or how much you want to believe them. Clear thinking requires discipline: filtering emotion and opinion from objective reality. The best decisions are grounded in concrete facts.

These three essential steps form a strong foundation for anyone beginning their journey toward clearer thinking. As you continue to grow and move forward, they will help you maintain greater mental poise, clarity, and consistency in your decision-making.

Clear Thinking

Straight forward, witty and timeless. #TellItLikeItIs, is a blog for our generation

Dear Gen Y,

It’s time for our next group huddle—let’s bring it in.

A lot is changing globally in 2026, and like many of you, we’ve got our hands full too. But with great change often comes great opportunity, and perhaps there’s no better time to speak about something becoming more essential by the day — the ability to think clearly.

Clear thinking is becoming one of the most valuable disciplines of modern life. Every day, we make decisions that quietly shape who we become — how we speak, who we trust, what we consume, what we tolerate, and ultimately the lives we build for ourselves.

In a world where every action leaves a visible footprint, and where social media can spread our words and reactions within seconds, clear thinking is no longer optional.

Yet it is becoming increasingly rare.

We live in an age of constant noise. Opinions are instant. Reactions are rewarded. Emotion often travels faster than truth. Somewhere along the way, many began confusing impulsiveness with authenticity, believing every strongly felt thought deserves immediate expression. But unfiltered thinking is not always wise thinking.

Clear thinking creates distance from emotional extremes. It considers perspective, timing, consequence, and fact. It listens before concluding and reflects before reacting.

A calm mind can often see what an emotional mind cannot.

Clear thinking also sharpens our ability to recognize opportunity. When the mind is not clouded by distraction, impulse, or constant noise, we become better able to notice timing, patterns, and possibility. Many opportunities are not missed because they were absent, but because the mind was too cluttered to properly see them.

Opportunities wait for no one.

So perhaps this is the season for Gen Y to slow down, refocus, and get back on track.

How do we achieve clear thinking?

Tune in for Part 2.

Movement Matters: Why Baby Steps Count …

Straight forward, witty and timeless. #TellItLikeItIs, is a blog for our generation

Dear Gen Y,

There are seasons in life when we feel stuck. Disappointments linger longer than we expect, and the courage to begin again seems just out of reach. Sometimes we remain paused in that place for far too long, quietly carrying the weight of what didn’t work out. To be fair to ourselves, healing takes time. Processing setbacks, grieving missed opportunities, and rebuilding confidence are all necessary parts of the journey. Yet even as we allow ourselves the space to heal, it is equally important that we do not remain completely still. Life, after all, was never designed for stagnation. It was designed for movement.

When we step back and look at the world around us, movement is everywhere. Nature itself is a system of constant motion. The oceans rise and fall with the tides, the wind carries seeds across the earth, and even the smallest atoms that make up life are always in motion. Movement is a fundamental principle of existence. Nothing that thrives remains entirely still. In the same way, progress in our own lives requires some level of movement. It does not always have to be dramatic or fast-paced, but it must exist. Any step forward—no matter how small—is a step toward growth, learning, and eventually success.

Of course, not all seasons allow us to sprint forward. Sometimes healing is slow, courage takes time to rebuild, and our energy returns in small increments. In those moments, baby steps become incredibly powerful. Consider how a child learns to walk. At first there are wobbly attempts, tiny movements, and uncertain steps. The effort seems small, almost insignificant, but the child keeps practicing. Step by step, balance improves. Strength builds. Confidence grows. One day, that same child walks firmly and freely, barely remembering those early days of uncertainty. Life works in much the same way. When we continue moving—even in the smallest ways—we create momentum that carries us forward.

For our generation, especially, it is easy to feel pressure to move quickly, achieve rapidly, and appear constantly successful. But real progress rarely happens in giant leaps. More often, it is the result of consistent, small movements made over time. A single decision to try again. One new idea explored. One small effort today that didn’t exist yesterday.

So, if you find yourself in a season where starting again feels difficult, remember this: movement matters. It does not have to be perfect, impressive, or fast. It only needs to exist. Baby steps, taken consistently, can eventually carry us further than we ever imagined.

And sometimes, the bravest thing we can do is simply begin again—one small step at a time.

5 Safety Tips for a Bold, Vibrant Mas Domnik 2026

Straight forward, witty and timeless. #TellItLikeItIs, is a blog for our generation

Mas Domnik 2026 is almost here, and the excitement is already building across the island. Dominica’s Carnival celebrations will culminate on Monday, February 16 and Tuesday, February 17, 2026, when the streets burst into colour, rhythm, and revelry in true Carnival spirit. Masquerade bands and vibrant traditional costumes will take center stage, many of which draw inspiration from the island’s rich African heritage — a powerful reminder that Carnival is not just festivity, but history, identity, and cultural expression in motion.

In the weeks leading up to the grand two-day street parade, the season unfolds through a series of signature events that capture the heart of our culture. From the elegance and poise showcased at the Miss Dominica Carnival Queen Show, to the rising talent on display at the Junior Calypso Monarch Competition and the lyrical mastery of the Calypso Monarch Competition, the stage is set long before we hit the road. The youthful charm of the Miss Jamboree (DSC) pageant, the high-energy showcase of Prime, and the vibrant atmosphere of pre-Carnival events all build anticipation, bringing communities together and welcoming visitors into the rhythm of Mas Domnik.

Whether you’re a first-time visitor traveling to Dominica for the Carnival season or a proud local ready to jump and wave, preparation is key to truly enjoying the festivities. Carnival is about freedom, culture, and community — and staying safe ensures the memories you make are only good ones.

Here are 5 essential safety tips to help you have a fun, responsible, and unforgettable Mas Domnik 2026.
1. Stay Hydrated and Pace Yourself

Carnival days are long, hot, and high-energy. Between dancing behind trucks, jumping with bands, and moving from one event to another, dehydration can happen quickly — especially in February heat.

Drink water consistently throughout the day (not just when you feel thirsty), eat before heading on the road, and pace your alcohol intake. A good rule of thumb: alternate alcoholic drinks with water and avoid drinking on an empty stomach. Your body will thank you by Tuesday afternoon.

2. Plan Your Movements and Transportation Early

With road closures, heavy foot traffic, and packed streets, transportation can become challenging. Whether you’re driving, using a taxi, or arranging a designated driver, make your plans ahead of time.

Visitors should familiarize themselves with main parade routes and nearby landmarks. Locals should secure safe parking areas early. If you’re staying out late after major events, ensure you already know how you’re getting home safely.

3. Be Mindful of Drinking and Driving

Carnival is a time to celebrate — but celebration must never compromise safety. If you plan to drink, always ensure you have a designated driver (and a backup plan if possible). Driving under the influence puts not only you at risk, but pedestrians, masqueraders, and other motorists enjoying the festivities.

For visitors, take a moment to understand local road rules before getting behind the wheel. In Dominica, we drive on the left-hand side of the road. Our island’s terrain is also naturally hilly and winding, with narrow roads in some areas. Drive cautiously, especially at night, and allow extra time to reach your destination. A safe arrival is always better than a rushed one.

4. Protect Your Valuables

Large crowds create opportunity for misplaced or stolen items. Keep phones secured in zippered pockets or small crossbody bags worn in front of you. Avoid carrying large sums of cash — use smaller bills and separate them if necessary.

For visitors especially, keep a copy of identification and important contacts saved digitally and written down separately. A small precaution can prevent a major inconvenience.

5. Know Your Limits and Trust Your Instincts

Excitement can sometimes blur judgment. If a situation feels uncomfortable or unsafe, remove yourself immediately. Stay with friends where possible, set meeting points in case you get separated, and keep your phone charged.

Mas Domnik is our rhythm. Our history. Our release. For two powerful days, the streets belong to the people — to the masqueraders, the music trucks, the drums, the colour, the energy that makes Dominica unlike anywhere else.

Celebrate it fully. Celebrate it wisely. Celebrate it together.

These safety tips are shared compliments of Generation Y Dominica, created with one intention: that every local and every visitor will experience the boldest, safest, most vibrant Mas Domnik 2026 possible.

A Good Reputation Is Better Than …

Straight forward, witty and timeless. #TellItLikeItIs, is a blog for our generation

Dear Gen Y,

November has officially wrapped up and has ushered in the cool breeze of the holiday season. While we sip more bush tea to steady the suddenly chilly nights and prepare for the festivities by stringing yards of Christmas lights over porches and rooftops, there’s no better time to pause and reflect on the year gone by.

We know we’ve been emphasizing “growth” a lot lately—but that’s because it matters.
2026 is almost here, and every activity, achievement, great moment, and not-so-great moment deserves a moment of reflection. This isn’t just for creating New Year’s resolutions—it’s for charting the course of the future you truly want.

One area that often gets overlooked is reputational damage.
In this social media age, anything can go viral in minutes, and we all know negative news spreads the fastest.

Doesn’t it sometimes feel like fewer and fewer people care about reputation?

Between the questionable Instagram videos and TikTok virals, not much thought seems to be given to the R-word in the pursuit of popularity. But dear friends, we’re here to remind you that keeping a good reputation is not old-fashioned. It is still extremely relevant—and here’s why:

A good reputation is indeed better than gold.

These days, many people are on the money chase. It’s all about being as rich as your favorite celebrity or rap star. But money isn’t everything. Reputation matters. You can chase the bag all you want and you might even get it—but remember: wealth without integrity is fragile, and a strong reputation can open doors that money alone can’t.

Who you are now is not who you’ll always be.

Youth is a major experimental phase. You may feel sure about who you are or where you’re heading, but trust me—time, experiences, and life’s lessons can shape you in ways you don’t expect. A good reputation protects you from being judged too harshly for the missteps you’ll eventually outgrow.

It builds trust and respect.

When you’re known for honesty, responsibility, and consistency, people feel safe depending on you. Trust like that lasts a lifetime—and it becomes part of your personal brand.

It follows you everywhere, like a shadow.

In a world where social media never forgets, your actions stay visible. A good reputation helps you avoid unnecessary barriers later—whether in school, careers, business, or relationships.

So the next time you’re tempted to “go viral,” pause for a second.
Life is so much more than likes and follows. Every post, every choice, every moment is shaping who you are becoming.

Guard your name.
It is one of the most valuable things you’ll ever own.

Managing Your Grocery Budget in 2025: 7 Budgeting Moves to Keep You Steady Through Grocery Price Increases

Straight forward, witty and timeless. #TellItLikeItIs, is a blog for our generation

If you’re 30-plus, out in the world trying to make adulthood work—and possibly juggling one or more kids—this one’s for you.
Dear Gen Y, are you surviving these relentless waves of grocery price increases? Because let’s be honest: it feels brutal out here.

We keep hearing all the polished, politically correct explanations for the rising costs—war, threats of war, fuel prices, tariffs, global supply chain issues—you name it. But no matter how sensible the explanations sound, we, the consumers, feel the pinch the most.

Remember when our parents used to joke about buying a large Shirley biscuit for 5 cents back in their day? Well, it’s no longer funny because it’s our reality now. And that same Shirley biscuit? Try $3–$4 in 2025. Yes, really.

So how do we survive these rising tides of change?
By becoming smarter and more intentional about our grocery budgeting.

Now, let’s be honest. Most people cringe at the word budgeting. It brings to mind straight-faced accountants, spreadsheets, and tedious expense tracking—basically, the boring stuff. But as we said in our last two magazines: growth is essential, and growth often requires looking directly at the uncomfortable things. Budgeting included.
Lucky for you—we’re keeping it simple.

Here are 7 Budgeting Moves to Keep You Steady Through Grocery Price Increases in 2025:
1.  Plan Your Meals Around What You Already Have

Start by checking your own pantry and cupboards to see what’s actually there. Too often, we shop on impulse without a real plan, only to spend more than we need to. Before heading to the store, look at what’s left over — you might be surprised by how many complete meals you can pull together from the ingredients you already have on hand. This simple step can trim your budget and reduce waste all at once.

2.  Start With a Realistic Weekly Budget

Not a fantasy number. Not what it was last month. Not the budget you wish you had — but the real, workable figure you can actually maintain. That means looking at your true net income after bills and mandatory expenses and building your weekly grocery limit from there. When the number is honest, the plan becomes doable.

3.  Make a Grocery List—and Stick to It

Impulse buys are the silent assassins of your budget. Make a list and do your best to stick with it.

4. Shop at Various Locations for the Best Prices

No one store has it all at the lowest price. Some products are cheaper at wholesalers, others at your local market. Compare, explore, and mix it up — finding the best prices is all about being flexible and smart with where you shop.

5.  Buy Essentials First

Get the must-haves before the nice-to-haves. If there’s money left, then you treat yourself.

6. Part With Unnecessary Purchases & Takeout

You’ll be amazed how much money you reclaim by cutting that extra snack run or spontaneous takeout order.

7. Compare Price per Unit, Not Price per Package — and Watch Out for Missing Labels

The bigger or prettier package isn’t always the better deal. Go with the facts: check the unit price and let the math guide you, not the packaging.

Also, be cautious with items that have no price labels. More often than not, those are the ones that end up costing more than you expected—and by the time you reach the cashier, the pressure is on to just pay and move on.

If a price isn’t shown, take a moment to scan it or ask the nearest cashier before you check out. A quick check now can save you from surprise spending later.

At the end of the day, surviving grocery prices in 2025 isn’t about perfection—it’s about being intentional. We may not control the global economy, but we can control how we shop, plan, and spend. And those small choices add up.

Start with one habit, one list, one smarter decision.
Bit by bit, your money stretches further, your stress lightens, and you regain a sense of stability. That’s how we stay steady, Gen Y—even when prices keep climbing.
You’ve got this.

6 Reasons Why Creativity Always Wins

Straight forward, witty and timeless. #TellItLikeItIs, is a blog for our generation

Adult life is packed with rules, expectations, and responsibilities at every turn. In the constant buzz of modern living, it’s easy to get trapped in a cycle of routine. And while routine keeps us grounded, let’s be honest—sometimes it drains us.

That’s why intentionally pausing to unwind isn’t just a luxury, it’s survival. Sure, back in our younger days “unwinding” meant drinking, clubbing, or anything that felt loud and wild. But as Gen Y evolves, it becomes clear that a healthy balance calls for healthier outlets too.

And this is where creativity steps in.

Often dismissed as an “extra-curricular,” creativity actually deserves front-row status when it comes to living a balanced, fulfilling life. Whether it’s something tiny you do during a lunch break or something you carve out time for every week, making space for creative expression should no longer be the thing we squeeze in last —it should be something we prioritize.

Here are 6 reasons why creativity always wins:
1.  It gives you freedom

Creativity is one of the few places in life where there are no strict rules. You get to shape something your way — your voice, your style, your ideas. That freedom alone feels like a breath of fresh air.

2.  It activates the brain’s reward system

When you create, your brain releases dopamine — the “feel-good” neurotransmitter. That’s why even small creative acts (coloring, writing a line, solving a challenge) can feel satisfying.

3. It helps you make sense of yourself

Creativity is a way of putting your inner world outside of you. You process emotions, reflect on experiences, and discover parts of yourself you didn’t know were there. That feeling of “this came from me” is powerful.

4. It builds confidence

Seeing something you imagined come to life gives a sense of accomplishment. It proves to you that you can shape something from nothing, and that boosts self-trust.

5. It creates meaning

Human beings naturally want purpose. Creating — whether it’s art, ideas, solutions, or systems — gives life a sense of direction, impact, and contribution.

6. It puts you in “flow”

Creativity often triggers a flow state — that feeling of being fully absorbed, timeless, and peaceful. Flow is one of the most fulfilling states the brain can enter.

It doesn’t have to be grand; it can be small, simple, and still incredibly joyful. Think back to the things you loved—or the things your younger self couldn’t get enough of—and ease your way back into them.

Maybe that looks like decorating a tiny corner of your workspace, taking “creative walks” where you let your mind wander, bird-watching, picking up an instrument you haven’t touched in years, or falling in love with knitting or crochet (yes, it’s very much in style again). Paint, doodle, scribble—whatever sparks that quiet joy.

Just find your little pockets of creativity. They add up and compound into balance.

And yes, Gen Y… it’s still possible. Your spark never left—go reclaim it.

Let us know what you think on Facebook or email us; we’d love to hear from you. 🌍✨

Between the Rock & the Hard Place

Straight forward, witty and timeless. #TellItLikeItIs, is a blog for our generation

Life has a way of twisting and turning when we least expect it. But few spots feel tougher than being “between a rock and a hard place.” That moment when both options in front of you feel heavy, uncomfortable — and no matter what you choose, something’s bound to hurt.

We’ve all been there, Gen Y. It’s not an easy space to sit in. But when life corners you like that, what do you do? That’s what we’re unpacking today.

In the Caribbean, we’d call it being “in a jam.” You’re stuck between two hard choices that seem impossible to balance. When that happens, your best move isn’t always to act fast as we typically do (which could lead to a bigger mess) — it’s to pause and self-analyze.

Ask yourself:

How did I get here? What choices led me to this point?

And when things start to make sense again, what options do I still have to move forward?

Nothing just happens. There’s always a trail of steps — decisions, feelings, actions — that brought you into that narrow space. When you take time to trace it back, you often start uncovering not just the problem, but also the possibilities.

And here’s the good news: you don’t have to pick between two painful options. Sometimes, by slowing down and reflecting, you can carve out a third one — one that’s healthier, more aligned with who you are, and actually gets you unstuck.

Take relationships, for example — the trending topic of our generation. Say you’ve found yourself in a love triangle that just hit boiling point: hearts are bruised, secrets spilled, and you’re left wondering, “What now?”

Before reacting, try self-analysis. Look at what drew you into that triangle — your emotions, your needs, your blind spots. Maybe, through that process, you realize you were searching for balance or attention that was missing somewhere else. That kind of clarity helps you see not just who is right for you, but also why you made the choices you did.

At the end of the day, being between a rock and a hard place isn’t a punishment — it’s a pause. It’s life’s way of forcing you to look within, to slow down, to realign. And when you do, you’ll often find that what once felt like a trap was really an invitation to make better decisions,  grow stronger, wiser, and more self-aware.

So the next time you find yourself jammed in between the rock and the hard place, remember—it’s not where you stay, it’s where you grow. Take a breath, clear your mind, and take one sure step at a time You might just surprise yourself with how much strength was hiding in you all along as you wiggle your way out of there.

Keep growing Gen Y.

Taking It Easy When You Find It Hard To: The Generation Y Balancing Act

Straight forward, witty and timeless. #TellItLikeItIs, is a blog for our generation

For Generation Y, “just relax” often feels like an inside joke. We’ve grown up in a world of student loans, economic rollercoasters, digital overload, and a global anxiety buffet — all served with a side of hustle culture. Rest isn’t second nature; it’s a skill many of us are still learning.

Why It Feels Hard

We live with:

Financial pressure that never seems to let up.

Constant digital noise that keeps our nervous system buzzing.

The glorification of busyness, where exhaustion is worn like a badge.

A world on edge, where global crises feel personal.

No wonder taking it easy feels unnatural. Our systems are stuck in fight or flight, rarely shifting into rest and digest — where true recovery happens.

The Science of Rest

Rest isn’t passive. It’s active recovery:

Breathing exercises calm the nervous system.

Physical grounding through movement or nature resets the body.

Digital boundaries protect mental space.

Mindful reflection helps process stress rather than suppress it.

Small, intentional habits can slowly retrain our overworked systems.

Redefining “Ease”

Rest isn’t quitting; it’s sustaining. It’s understanding that:

Burnout is not proof of ambition.

Boundaries aren’t selfish.

Sustainability beats constant hustle.

Learning to pause isn’t weakness — it’s resilience.

The Quiet Power of Saying No

Setting boundaries is a form of self-respect. Saying “not now” creates space for what matters. Rest becomes possible when we protect our attention from constant external demands.

The Long Game

Choosing rest in a world that profits from our exhaustion is quietly radical. It allows us to show up with clarity, creativity, and longevity — not just for our careers, but for our health and relationships too.

Because if we don’t take rest seriously, the world certainly won’t offer it freely.

How do you feel about taking it easy? Let’s start the conversation! Let us know in the comments or email us; we’d love to hear from you. 🌍✨

Living Consciously in a Fast-Paced World

Straight forward, witty and timeless. #TellItLikeItIs, is a blog for our generation

In today’s fast-moving world, it’s easy to feel like life is happening to us rather than with us. With constant notifications, packed schedules, and societal pressures, we often go through the motions without truly experiencing the present. But what if we chose to live consciously—making intentional decisions, embracing the moment, and prioritizing what truly matters?

Here’s how we can slow down and live with more awareness in a fast-paced world:

1. Make Intentional Choices

Every decision we make shapes our reality. From the food we eat to the way we spend our time, conscious choices help us create a life that aligns with our values. Are you consuming content that fuels your mind? Are your daily habits contributing to your growth? Living intentionally means making decisions that serve your well-being and purpose.

2. Be Present

With endless distractions at our fingertips, it’s easy to get caught up in the digital world. But life isn’t just about reaching the next milestone—it’s also about being in the moment. Take time to appreciate the little things: a deep conversation, the warmth of the sun on your skin, or the sound of laughter with friends. Presence is the key to genuine fulfillment.

3. Question & Evolve

Our generation grew up in a world of rapid change, yet we sometimes fall into routines without questioning them. Conscious living means staying curious—exploring new perspectives, challenging outdated beliefs, and continuously evolving. Growth happens when we allow ourselves to unlearn and relearn.

4. Prioritize What Matters

Success is often equated with hustle, but true success also includes balance, mental well-being, and meaningful connections. Make time for self-care, rest, and the people who uplift you. Life isn’t just about doing more—it’s about doing what matters more.

Embrace Conscious Living

Living consciously isn’t about having everything figured out; it’s about making small, mindful shifts that bring more authenticity and fulfillment into your life. By slowing down, being intentional, and staying present, we can navigate this fast-paced world with clarity and purpose.

How do you practice conscious living? Let’s start the conversation! Let us know in the comments or email us; we’d love to hear from you. 🌍✨
