Straight forward, witty and timeless. #TellItLikeItIs, is a blog for our generation

Adult life is packed with rules, expectations, and responsibilities at every turn. In the constant buzz of modern living, it’s easy to get trapped in a cycle of routine. And while routine keeps us grounded, let’s be honest—sometimes it drains us.
That’s why intentionally pausing to unwind isn’t just a luxury, it’s survival. Sure, back in our younger days “unwinding” meant drinking, clubbing, or anything that felt loud and wild. But as Gen Y evolves, it becomes clear that a healthy balance calls for healthier outlets too.
And this is where creativity steps in.
Often dismissed as an “extra-curricular,” creativity actually deserves front-row status when it comes to living a balanced, fulfilling life. Whether it’s something tiny you do during a lunch break or something you carve out time for every week, making space for creative expression should no longer be the thing we squeeze in last —it should be something we prioritize.
Here are 6 reasons why creativity always wins:
1. It gives you freedom
Creativity is one of the few places in life where there are no strict rules. You get to shape something your way — your voice, your style, your ideas. That freedom alone feels like a breath of fresh air.
2. It activates the brain’s reward system
When you create, your brain releases dopamine — the “feel-good” neurotransmitter. That’s why even small creative acts (coloring, writing a line, solving a challenge) can feel satisfying.
3. It helps you make sense of yourself
Creativity is a way of putting your inner world outside of you. You process emotions, reflect on experiences, and discover parts of yourself you didn’t know were there. That feeling of “this came from me” is powerful.
4. It builds confidence
Seeing something you imagined come to life gives a sense of accomplishment. It proves to you that you can shape something from nothing, and that boosts self-trust.
5. It creates meaning
Human beings naturally want purpose. Creating — whether it’s art, ideas, solutions, or systems — gives life a sense of direction, impact, and contribution.
6. It puts you in “flow”
Creativity often triggers a flow state — that feeling of being fully absorbed, timeless, and peaceful. Flow is one of the most fulfilling states the brain can enter.
It doesn’t have to be grand; it can be small, simple, and still incredibly joyful. Think back to the things you loved—or the things your younger self couldn’t get enough of—and ease your way back into them.
Maybe that looks like decorating a tiny corner of your workspace, taking “creative walks” where you let your mind wander, bird-watching, picking up an instrument you haven’t touched in years, or falling in love with knitting or crochet (yes, it’s very much in style again). Paint, doodle, scribble—whatever sparks that quiet joy.
Just find your little pockets of creativity. They add up and compound into balance.
And yes, Gen Y… it’s still possible. Your spark never left—go reclaim it.
